Non-native. Original 2 species crossed were from Asia continent. The tree has a typical oval leaf that is not unusual. Over 100 cultivars exist, but this one has the typical white and purple flower like the “Mary Jane” type. The waxy looking flowers may be breathtaking in early Spring, but are very susceptible to late frost damage. Usually a small tree but can become 35’ tall by 40’ wide.
