TN native. Native to certain areas of TN, but was seldom a major component of any forest type. It was most numerous in lowlands and rich moist areas at lower elevations. Can be a very large tree and attain longevity in age. One of the few oaks with deep bark furrows which Resurrection Fern will grow on in middle TN. Builders bulldozed a medium size tree in Madison and I retrieved slices that showed it was 310 years old. I donated it to Shelby Bottoms Nature Ctr where it is displayed for all to see. The acorn is the largest of any oak. RandyAllen
