TN native. A pretty common Elm native to every state east of mid-Nebraska. The leaves are typical shape for elms, being elliptical and tapering to a long sharp point with sawtooth edges. The leaves are 4 to 6” long and oblique based like many elms. The leaves are somewhat thick and covered with course hairs on top. This tree can have a nice spreading picturesque shape to admire. It was the second most common Elm in our original forests, behind American Elm.
