Junior Master Gardener camp is a five day camp beginning June 4 and ending June 8 from 9:00-12:00 daily held at Historic Mansker's Station. The camp fee is $75 per camper.
The Junior Master Gardener program is designed for children in grades 3to 5. It is modeled after the highly successful Master Gardener program andoffers hands-on fun and creative activities. The topic for the week camp isInsects and Diseases. Campers will find out what’s bugging themand their plants by exploring the world of insects and plant diseases.
By participating in Sumner County’s Junior Master Gardener Camp, yourchild is participating in an international youth gardening program sponsored inSumner County by the University of Tennessee Cooperative Extension network.JMGC engages children in novel, “hands-on” group and individual learningexperiences. Activities encourage children to explore their world whilefostering a love of gardening, and an appreciation for the environment.
Using materials from Texas A&M, we've designed our camp to give yourchild an exciting and enriching summer experience under the supervision oftrained and experienced leadership. Our leaders, who are members of the SumnerCounty Master Gardener's Association, along with staff from the City ofGoodlettsville, have committed their time and talents to this endeavor.
Monday: Insect Basic
Tuesday: Insect Life Cycle and Classification
Wednesday: Insect Collecting
Thursday: Insect/Plant Interaction
Friday: Plant Diseases
Camp is limited to 15 students at a cost of $75 per student for all five days. Campers should check in thru the Visitor's Center. Each camper will receive a Junior Master Gardener t-shirt on the first day of camp, and the t-shirt will be worn each day of camp.
